Maskaras: traditional summer carnival of Sardinia

At Muravera arrives the 18th edition of Maskaras, the traditional summer carnival of Sardinia.

On Wednesday, August 9th, at 10 PM, via Roma fills with masks, to the sound of cowbells and with a steady pace. Rituals and propitiatory dances linked to ancestral beliefs, traditions, and the cycle of nature and fields are represented.

The masks present at the event are among the most representative of the traditional carnivals of the island: Mamuthones from Mamoiada, Boes and Merdules from Ottana, Urthos and Buttidos from Fonni, sos Tumbarinos from Gavoi, s’Urtzu and sa Mamulada from Seui, sos Colonganos from Austis, and the Mamutzones from Samugheo, as well as the Folk Group from Muravera.

Musical entertainment is also planned with a concert by the Dilliriana.

The event is organized by the Municipality of Muravera and the Pro Loco Murera.
